The Legacy Giving Report has revealed that the number of people leaving charitable legacies has increased by 22% year on year.
This means that the number of charitable estates has now risen to 46,000 – a 22% increase compared to last year.
Charitable legacy gifting continues to grow, whether through a residuary legacy (where a person leaves their entire estate or the remainder of their estate to a charity after other beneficiaries have been provided for), a pecuniary legacy (where a person leaves a specific sum of money to a charity), or a specific gift (where a person leaves a particular asset to charity).
The Legacy Giving Report also noted that the average value of estates leaving charitable gifts was £599,000, with the South Coast and London being the most generous regions.
